1. Don’t give the Bouncer crap
Despite the fact that you are 25 and have years of chain smoking behind you, the bouncer asks for a second ID. Giving the bouncer lip is a sure fire way to piss him off, and he has the power to prevent you from entering the bar. ID pictures don’t represent us well normally, so just let the bouncer verify that it is yours.
2. Don’t be rude to the bartender
The bartender isn’t your “buddy” or even “hey you” Never snap your fingers at him, unless you want to stand there snapping. Never pull out a twenty and wave it at him- are you the only one in the bar with money? The bartender understands-it’s crowded and your thirsty. Here’s what you should do; stand there at the bar with your money out, make eye contact with your bartender and nod your head to make sure he see’s you.
3. Be ready with your order
When it’s crowded the bartender does not have time for you to decide between vodka and tonic and a beer. He has people to take care of . Know what you want before the bartender comes over. In a group? Order all together so the bartender can make all your drinks at once and avoid making separate tips. Pay all together too. So the bartender can bring your change at once instead of taking the money for each individual drink, going to the register, making change, coming back with the change multiple times.
4. Tip Well
Bartenders remember good tippers, and good tippers never wait to long at the bar. Bartenders make about $3 per hour and depend on your tips. Be sure to tip well when ordering your first round of drinks, and then after that use good judgment. A good bartender takes care of good patron, not cheap patron.
5. Don’t ask annoying questions
What do you recommend? Where is everyone? What exactly is so hard about your job? Whats with the music here? Some questions are stupid, others are just plain rude and the wait staff are probably too busy to answer them for you.
6. Don’t get sloppy
Dancing on the table is fine. Or the bar, the chairs and the speakers. The common sight at the clubs. Just don’t fall off of the table, or the bar, the chairs or the speakers. Unless of course, your looking to talk with the bouncer, who will be poking you to see if your still alive and possibly kicking you out.
7. Don’t ask for freebies
Just because it’s your birthday, bachelorette party or last day at work your not entitled to a free round. Hell, anyone could come up with some type of story just so that they can get a free drink. The staff will give it to you for free if they feel like it.
8. Don’t be a sleaze
Don’t be a sleaze to the waitress. You are not the first to hit on her and your lines probably aren’t going to work. She’s just doing her job, so don’t ask her for a quarter (you know how the line goes). If she is interested in you she will flirt with you.
9. Don’t act like you own the place
While its tempting to put your feet up on the other comfy chairs and the tables or to lie down on the couch, don’t. Your out in public, so you taking up space for others to sit will piss off patrons, and they’ll complain to the waitress who will then confront you. Also, definitely do not lie down-the staff will have to assume you’re intoxicated, so you get cut off or worse kicked out.
10. Don’t buy the bartender a drink
We know you mean well, but if you really want to make them happy, tip them a bit extra. The staff can drink for free after the bar closes, and sometimes they’re not allowed to accept drinks until it’s almost last call. If you really want to show them appreciation of their service go with a bigger tip. It lasts a lot longer than a buzz.
